Martin Glicklich has enjoyed success as an educator, soloist, conductor, chamber and orchestral musician, as well as arranger. He has been described as possessing dazzling virtuosity with an enchanting, singing sound. A native of Los Angeles, Martin is principal flute of the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony. Martin has also played in most of the orchestras in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, Long Beach Symphony, and the Riverside Philharmonic, among others. Working in many musical genres and styles, Martin has also collaborated with a variety of performing artists. He can be heard on recordings of Neil Diamond, Harry Connick Jr., as well as with the Hollywood Klezmer Ensemble, among others. He has performed live with Marvin Hamlisch, Theodore Bikel, as well as with Marilyn Horne and Midori. Active in the motion picture recording industry, Martin can also be heard on numerous motion picture and television soundtracks.
Dedicated to teaching as well as performing, Martin has had students accepted as flute majors to the Colburn Conservatory, Thornton School of Music at USC, Herb Albert School of Music at UCLA, Manhatten School of Music, Rice University, and the University of North Texas, among others. He continues to adjudicate many competitions, and is an active clinician. Martin has a thriving home teaching studio, and is also on the faculty at La Sierra University where after 22 years he continues to teach flute, music appreciation, and coach chamber music. Martin is currently vice-president of the Southwestern Youth Music Festival(SYMF), and regional co-director for the Elite International Music Festival. He is also on the board of the Music Guild of Los Angeles, and an advisory board member of Best Fit Education. He was formerly Co-Director of the Montecito International Summer Music Festival, as well as former Director of the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at La Sierra University where he founded and directed the Summer Music Programs for grades K-12.
